[NEWS] 04 Februari 2016 UP45 Total has agreed sales and purchase agreements (SPAs) with Pertamina
of Indonesia that will boost the French energy company’s presence in
Asia.
The SPAs position Total to buy around 400,000 tonnes a year of LNG
contracted to Pertamina from Cheniere’s Corpus Christi LNG project in
the US and to supply Pertamina with LNG from its global portfolio,
increasing from 400,000 to 1 million tonnes a year (mta) over 15 years
from 2020.
Pertamina signed a 20-year contract with Cheniere to take 1.52 mta
from Corpus Christi, Cheniere’s second US-based export project, due to
produce up to 22.5 mta. The Texas-based project comprises three trains
that will produce 4.5 mta each from 2018 and two additional trains that
will add 4.5 mta apiece later.
Indonesia’s LNG needs are forecast to increase to 12 mta by
2019-2020. Indonesia may become Asia’s most important small-scale player
as the archipelago nation turns to gas to provide power and electricity
to remote communities.
Total produced 10.2 mta of LNG last year. It has interests across the
LNG value chain, including LNG plants in Norway, Russia, Nigeria,
Angola, Yemen, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Indonesia and
Australia.
“Strengthening our presence in Asia, in particular through innovative
relationships with new LNG buyers such as Pertamina is an important
part of our strategy,” said Total president gas Laurent Vivier. “These
agreements… enhance both companies’ LNG portfolios.” [SUMBER]
